英语口语中对女性的称呼可谓丰富，且谐趣十足。这些称呼多用于口语，表现出称呼者对被称呼者的态度、情感以及彼此之间的微妙或显而易见的关系。

      一戒：不问年龄。西方人的年龄是保密的。特别是24岁以后绝不会谈论自己的年龄。

　　二戒：不问财物。一个人的收入和随身所戴的财物都与个人的能力、地位、脸面等有 关。

　　三戒：不问婚姻。这属于个人隐私。让一位老大不小的外宾交待自己尚未婚配并不是件愉快的事情。

是“烧红了的狮子的头”(red burned lion head) 还是“用酱油炖烂了的肉丸”(braised pork balls in soy sauce)?——这道菜是中国人耳熟能详的“红烧狮子头”。奥运期间，外国人更愿意在饭店的中餐菜单上看到哪个名称？

与汉语类似，同样的意思在英语中也可有多种表达方式，而不同表达方式之间的差别往往在于语气和情感，语气和情感的选择又取决于具体的环境，所以英语翻译一定要考虑具体的场合与对象，考虑被提示对象的阅读心理与情感，意思正确只是翻译的第一步。下面我们以提示语为例进行说明。
